“Very interesting case utilising Glushu glue on horse shoes on a client.
The initial vet assessment was very poor. Remodeling feet should require experience, thou many providers simply won’t refer cases out of their skill set. That’s a real detriment to the horse. Luckily I was referred the case by the owner and no vet bias came along; they simply felt it was not recoverable, based on their knowledge.
The initial Vet service was very impressed, in a later follow up of the changes and hopefully provided insight into their of what modern materials podiatry can accomplish.
That’s why, we share; it’s not about better than you…… it’s about what’s better for the horse. Until you know and can do….. you don’t know and you cannot.
Thankfully, podiatry has advanced on and so much of what was viewed as impossible is now everyday work, for a select few.
The initial rads and coronary band view highlight the level proximal hoof profile and a PA of 17 degrees. Decreasing the heel height; comes at a cost; increased pull on the DDFT. Utilizing leverage testing is a prudent approach to preloading the palmar suspensory to “test drive” a new alignment. Abby never refused being eased back into her new PA, over time. Reducing the breakover lever arm; the length from COR to toe break over is a step in enhancing functional biomechanics. @glushultd shoe placement and a rolled toe w/chamfered heels fit her 7th set up. We’ve used pour ins and support pads, throughout; an A30 silicone and leather pad fit the environment this run.
A decrease of 7 degrees of PA overall, it’s been a bit less than a year. Symmetry in palmar heel heights as well, she’s come almost a full inch(1”) in decreasing heel height. The founder feet are quite a distorted mess to resolve.
A point of note is the SHORE-hardness rating of any appliance - ie-shoe
Compatibility of density, hoof to appliance is HIGHLY disregarded. I WANT an appliance to WEAR OUT. Otherwise, it’s WEARING OUT THE HOOF. These rubber-aluminum hardness-shore match up with these weak type feet. Compression thru the walls for support w/ any farriery mechanics needed with a wearable bearing surface. RESETS are NOT YOUR FRIEND. They are TOO HARD-DENSE in compatibility of structure.
That’s where experience in podiatry and assessing the elastic potential of the hoof in its current physiological state and health and WHAT you choose to add; separates DIY knowledge from appropriate care based on experience and education.
