Farrier Review: Glushu for laminitic horse.
Laminitis can turn a routine trim into a careful rescue job. When the foot is too painful, unstable, or compromised to trim in the usual way, the farrier has to think about support first, then correction.
Thank you to expert farrier Bart Lambert who shared how they used Glushu for a horse suffering from laminitis, with the goal of supporting the foot, helping derotation, and giving the hoof enough time to grow back into a trimmable state. Follow Bart on Facebook to see more of their work.
From Bart Lambert
"This client is receiving a second application of Glushu. The first one application was a hard one because the horse was in a bad shape due to the laminitis. This meant I couldn't trim the foot so I had to rebuild it from the outside to position the coffin bone in the wright angle and give sufficient derotation. There was also almost a penetration of the coffin bone through the sole.
With the second application foot has grown properly and with sufficient material to trim the foot again meaning I could set everything in place by normal trimming. Here you can see, still with a rocker shoe and sufficient lift behind COR for the derotation."
What this review shows about Glushu
This case shows a practical use for Glushu in a therapeutic farriery setting. The product didn’t “cure” laminitis, and no glue-on system can replace veterinary care, radiographs, diagnosis, pain management, or skilled trimming. What it did offer was a way for the farrier to create support when the foot couldn’t be handled like a normal hoof.
✅ It allowed external rebuilding when trimming wasn’t possible - In severe laminitic cases, the safest trim may be little or no trim at all. External support can help bridge that gap.
✅ It supported a staged approach - The first application focused on protection and position. The second application allowed more normal trimming once the hoof had grown.
✅ It worked with a therapeutic shoeing plan - The Glushu was paired with a rocker shoe and lift behind the centre of rotation. The product was part of the farrier’s plan, not the whole plan.
✅ It helped avoid nails in a compromised foot - When hoof wall quality or pain level makes nailing unsuitable, Glushu can give the farrier another route.
