Farrier Report: Glushu Rocker Shoe Helps Laminitis Recovery

Laminitis can turn even the gentlest trim or shoeing appointment into a real challenge. When a horse’s feet are sore, tender, or weakened, the last thing anyone wants is to add more stress through nails, pressure, or a setup that doesn’t suit the hoof in front of them.

That’s why we were so pleased to hear this update from farrier Kristof Piette, who shared how he used a Glushu rocker shoe setup for an 8-year-old horse dealing with laminitis, blistering, and slight rotation of the coffin bone.

From Kristof Piette:

“Happy to share a Glushu story of a client with slight rotation of the coffin bone, blistering and laminitis.

This horse is 8 years old an had a number of hoof problems. I knew that traditional shoeing would not be an option due to their tender feet.

For this case I used Glushu glue on horseshoes. The first reason was that as Glushu can be applied without nails I would not be compromising the delicate hoof. They are also easily adaptable, so I applied using a reversed shoe and rocker profile.

This horse is doing fantastically and is much more comfortable. Follow me on Facebook for updates as to how they get on.”

How Glushu helps with laminitis:

Comfort doesn’t mean the underlying condition should be ignored. It also doesn’t mean the case is finished. Laminitis recovery takes time, monitoring, and regular reassessment. But improved comfort is a meaningful step and this is where Glushu comes in. It gives the horse a better chance to rest, move carefully, and continue through the recovery process with less distress.

In cases like this, progress is often seen through everyday details:

  • The horse stands more willingly

  • Turning becomes less difficult

  • The stride looks less guarded

  • The horse seems brighter and less anxious

  • The farrier and owner can manage follow-up care more easily

If you’d like to try Glushu for your horse, you can order through the online store or ask your local farrier supply. For product questions, contact the Glushu team sue@glushu.com and they’ll be happy to help.
