Farrier Review: Glushu Temporary Support for Barefoot Horse

Supporting a barefoot horse during challenging ground conditions can be tricky. When the ground becomes hard and unforgiving, horses that have transitioned to barefoot may struggle without the protection and clearance that shoes provide. Skyforge Farriery recently shared their experience using Glushu, a glue-on shoe, to offer temporary support without compromising the hoof’s integrity.
From Skyforge Farriery:
“These aluminium, rubber coated, glue on shoes from Glushu are a great option for this time of year for those horses that don’t cope well with conventionally nailed shoes, but still need the permanent ground clearance that a shoe provides.
This horse transitioned to barefoot last Autumn and had been barefoot over winter without any issues, however the prolonged dry weather this spring caused the ground to get incredibly hard. He was starting to struggle and needed some ground clearance.
We will be using GluShu’s as a bridging measure over the summer until the ground softens, before going back to barefoot for the winter. The old nail holes had fully grown out and it seemed a shame to compromise the integrity of the hoof wall by nailing on shoes temporarily, so instead we opted for GluShus.
This horse is in light work, comprising of hacking and schooling, and they work perfectly for him.”
Benefits of Using Glushu for Temporary Support
