Farrier Report: Glushu an important tool in helping a Horse Recover from Laminitis

Four weeks of laminitis pain can feel like a lifetime for a horse and a heartbreak for the owner. When a horse is lying down, uncomfortable, and showing little sign of improvement, every decision matters. The right care plan can make the difference between ongoing distress and a realistic path back to comfort.

This story comes from the expert farriers at Huf-Reha Team, who shared how they used GluShu as part of a wider laminitis recovery plan for a Spanish horse in serious difficulty.

From Huf-Reha Team:

“This Spanish horse came to us after four weeks of pain, lying down, no improvement, no prospects. Sadly the owner was already considering putting him down.

Here at Huf Reha we take on the most difficult cases and thought we could help this horse.

We utilised a laminitis pad, along with good guidance on diet and medication and things immediately took a turn for the better. After a week, the painkillers could be gradually reduced.

Then came updated X-rays and it was time to make the horse comfortable in recovery with a custom-fitted GluShu.

Their progress has been remarkable he has gone from close to written off to now going for walks.

What this case does show is the value of not giving up too early when skilled help is available. It also highlights the importance of reassessing the horse at each stage rather than following a fixed plan.

The most useful lessons are practical:

✅Comfort must come first - A horse in severe pain needs immediate professional attention and supportive care.

✅Imaging can guide better decisions - Updated X-rays help vets and farriers understand what the hoof needs.

✅Diet and medication matter - Laminitis recovery is not only a hoof problem. Whole-horse management is part of the plan.

✅Farrier skill is central - A custom-fitted support package depends on experience, judgement, and careful application.

✅Glue-on shoeing can be a valuable option - When nailing is not ideal, a Glushu gives the farrier another way to support the hoof.

A sincere thank you to the expert farriers at Huf-Reha Team for sharing this case and for showing what thoughtful hoof rehabilitation can achieve.
